Royal Diamond keys solid Tattersalls autumn session

Bolstered by session topper Royal Diamond and a stellar clearance rate, the Tattersalls Ltd. autumn horses in training sale enjoyed a second straight strong session on Tuesday.

Sir Mark Prescott’s Heath House Stables consigned four of the 15 top-priced horses on Tuesday, led by Royal Diamond, a King’s Best gelding who carried a four-race winning streak with him into the auction ring.

Michael Dods purchased Royal Diamond for $624,211 (400,000 guineas). The three-year-old won three races on grass and made his final start prior to the sale on the synthetic surface at Wolverhampton, powering to a ten-length romp under Seb Sanders.

A half brother to Irish classic-placed Group 3 winner Mad About You (Ire), Royal Diamond is out of Group 2 winner Irresistable Jewel (Ire), by Danehill.

Following the same pattern set during Monday’s opening session, total sales
and average price declined and median rose on day two, based on session-to-session comparisons.

Tattersalls reported the sale of 232 yearlings from 260 offered for $9,833,684 (6,001,429 guineas), a 9.2 % decline compared with the second session last year. Average dipped 2.7% to $42,388 (25,869 guineas).

Median climbed 10.4% to $20,677 (12,619 guineas), and the clearance rate was 89.2%.

The sale concludes its three-day run Wednesday.
