Top dispersals highlight Keeneland November

Dispersals of two of North America’s leading breeders should spark added interest in this year’s Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

Keeneland has pushed back the usual Monday start date for the sale to Tuesday, November 10, to accommodate travel from the Breeders’ Cup World Championships in Southern California on November 6-7.

The sale will feature the dispersals of the W.T. Young family’s Overbrook Farm and Windfields Farm, founded by the late E.P. Taylor.

“The November sale offers quality and quantity unlike any other breeding stock sale in the world,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. “This year’s catalog features some of the most outstanding broodmares and race fillies on the market today.”

The catalogs are available on Keeneland’s website. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of October 19.

Some of the broodmares to be offered are in foal to first-year stallions such as two-time Horse of Year Curlin and 2008 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Big Brown. The sale also features mares in foal to young stallions such as After Market, Bernardini, Corinthian, First Samurai, Hard Spun, Henny Hughes, HenrythenavigatorInvasor (Arg), and Street Sense, among others.

Mares covered by established sires such as A.P. Indy, Awesome Again, BirdstoneCandy Ride (Arg), Danehill Dancer, Distorted Humor, Dixie Union, DynaformerEl Prado (Ire), Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Galileo (Ire), Ghostzapper, Giant’s Causeway, Gone West, Kingmambo, Medicean, More Than Ready, Mr. Greeley, Pulpit, Rock Hard Ten, Smart Strike, SpeightstownStreet Cry (Ire), Tapit, Tiznow, and Unbridled’s Song, among others, will be offered.

Of interest to buyers from the Southern Hemisphere are 22 mares consigned by Adena Springs with foals at their side that were produced by Southern Hemisphere-timed matings to such stallions as Awesome Again, El Prado (Ire), and Ghostzapper.

Cataloged among the November sale weanlings is one of the last three foals sired by Storm Cat, who was pensioned in 2008.

Of the 4,702 horses cataloged for the November sale, 2,337 are broodmares, 1,885 are weanlings, 476 are horses of racing age, and four are stallion prospects.
