Team Valor International has retired King of the Roxy, winner of the 2006 Futurity Stakes (G2) and ’07 Hutcheson Stakes (G2).

Stud plans have not been decided for the four-year-old Littleexpectations colt out of Marrakesh, by Bold Forbes.

King of the Roxy won the Futurity by three-quarters of a length at Belmont Park following a second-place finish in the Saratoga Special Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G2).

In his first start at three, King of the Roxy scored by 2 1/4 lengths in the Hutcheson at Gulstream Park. He later finished second to Tiago in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and sixth to Curlin in the Preakness Stakes (G1) for trainer Todd Pletcher.

“He is a very masculine, correct, and powerful horse that stands over a lot of ground,” said Barry Irwin of Team Valor. “He should make somebody a very attractive stallion prospect.”

Irwin said King of the Roxy developed a defect at the base of a cannon bone , and that the defect led to his retirement.

Bred by Deborah Kopatz, King of the Roxy won three of 12 career starts and earned $536,734. He was the Ohio-bred Horse of the Year for 2007.
