Delosvientos dictated the pace in the $97,000 Point Given Stakes and coasted to an easy 3½-length win on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

The five-year-old Siphon (Brz) gelding set a new track record for 1½ miles. He completed the distance in 2:31.12, besting the previous record of 2:31.54 set by Malibu Moonshine on June 10, 2006.

The Point Given field was trimmed to four when Grade 1 winner Evening Attire and Angliana were scratched, and Delosvientos faced little resistance from the three remaining opponents.

After being pressured by Phil the Power early in the race, Delosvientos stretched his lead to 4½ lengths through a mile in 1:38.24.

“We were getting pressed for a little bit but it didn’t take too much of a toll on my horse,” winning jockey Eddie Castro said.

Phil the Power cut the lead to two lengths in early stretch but the Brooklyn Handicap (G2) winner responded to Castro’s urging and dispatched that challenger.

Delosvientos improved to seven wins in 13 career starts and boosted his bankroll to $311,370 for owner The Big Stable and trainer Giuseppe Iadisernia. He is one of five winners from as many starters out of the Cryptoclearance mare Secret Psalm, a full sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Strategic Maneuver.
