Dual classic winner Big Brown breezed an easy six furlongs in 1:15.68 on the grass at Aqueduct on Wednesday as he prepares for the $500,000 Monmouth Stakes on September 13 on the Monmouth Park turf.
The three-year-old Boundary colt, trained by Richard Dutrow Jr. for Paul Pompa Jr. and IEAH Stables, has not started on the turf since his career debut last September at Saratoga Race Course. He did, however, post a five-furlong breeze on the Aqueduct turf in 1:04.67 on August 28.
The Monmouth Stakes is being used as Big Brown's prep for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), which will be run on the new Pro-Ride synthetic surface at Santa Anita Park on October 25.
Big Brown, the dominant winner of this season's Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1), has not started since winning the Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) on August 3 at Monmouth.
