Giant Gizmo, winner of the Lone Star Park Handicap (G3) and Alysheba Stakes (G3) in his previous two starts, has been ruled out of the Whitney Handicap (G1) on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course following the detection of a non-displaced condylar fracture.

Racing Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel said the four-year-old Giant’s Causeway colt would likely be out of training for four to six months.

“It should heal very well, and he should hopefully be back racing,” said Frankel, who trains Giant Gizmo for owner-breeder Stronach Stables.

Frankel is looking toward the Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) on August 24 at Del Mar with Mast Track, the upset winner of the Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes (G1) on June 28.

Frankel also is the owner-breeder of the four-year-old Mizzen Mast colt, who got away with an easy lead in the Hollywood Gold Cup and endured for a 2 ¼-length victory at odds of 10.80-to-1.

Mast Track had finished fifth in the Shoemaker Mile Stakes (G1) on May 26 at Hollywood in his only previous stakes appearance.

“Hopefully he’s good enough,” Frankel said in gauging the Pacific Classic. “He ran a good race the other day. He looked strong all the way. I was surprised how good he really did, because he finished strong. I know the fractions weren’t blazing, but they were comparable to what the other horses have been running [in Southern California].”

Frankel said Precious Kitten is on course for the Beverly D. Stakes (G1) on August 9 at Arlington Park after recovering from a quarter crack that she developed following her victory in the Gamely Stakes (G1) on May 26 at Hollywood.

Country Star is back in serious training after receiving a break following a sixth-place finish in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) on May 2. She finished fifth in the Ashland Stakes (G1) in her other start this year after closing her two-year-old season with back-to-back Grade 1 victories.

“She was trying to get out in her last two races and we put her through the nuclear scan and all the tests and couldn’t find anything, but we decided to give her about six weeks off,” Frankel said. “She’s not too far off a race. She’s up to five [furlongs] breezing.”
