Turfway Park cancels racing on Friday
Turfway Park canceled live racing on Friday because of the week’s unusual mix of wintry weather.
The Florence, Kentucky, track will remain open for simulcasting, and the usual Friday night party and live music remain on schedule.
"The inclement weather that swept through this area earlier in the week has made the situation unsafe for racing, and we do not want to ask the horses, horsemen, or riders to deal with that," Turfway President Robert Elliston said. "After several inches of freezing rain fell, temperatures dropped quickly to single digits, and ice still coats every visible surface and remains in the cushion of the track. With low temperatures and wind forecast to continue, we made the prudent decision to cancel racing for tonight."
Live racing is expected to resume on Saturday with first post at 1:10 p.m. EST.
