Lord Shogun after fifth straight in Manitoba Derby

Lord Shogun will aim for his fifth consecutive win when he starts in a field of seven entered in the $100,000 Manitoba Derby (Can-G3) at Assiniboia Downs on Monday.

Lord Shogun is coming off back-to-back stakes wins. He won the $40,000 Ky Alta Handicap at Northlands Park on July 13 after taking the Alberta Derby (Can-G3) on June 15 at Stampede Park. The son of Maudlin has won four straight races overall going into Monday's 1 1/8-mile race for three-year-olds.

Top challengers include Montana Rush, who has finished second in three stakes races at Canterbury Park and Fonner Park this year; and Ekati, who is coming off a victory in the $30,000 Derby Trial Stakes at Assiniboia Downs on July 14.
