Jockey Casey suffers bruised liver in Aqueduct spill

Apprentice jockey Amanda Casey suffered a bruised liver on Friday after she was kicked by her scheduled mount, Karakorum Jete, in the paddock at Aqueduct prior to the ninth race.

Casey was admitted to North Shore University Hospital in Manhassat, New York, and is expected to stay for a week to recover.

Casey’s jockey agent, Joe Ceraulo, said Casey was admitted with internal bleeding.

“They chose not to do surgery, which is a good sign,” Ceraulo said. “They want to keep a close eye on her for a week. They said best-case scenario: she will probably be out from four to six weeks.”
