Oak Tree, Santa Anita receive NTRA accreditation

The Oak Tree Racing Association and Santa Anita Park received full accreditation from the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s Safety and Integrity Alliance following a review of all racing operations at the Arcadia, California, track.

The accreditation was announced with only a week remaining before the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships on November 6-7.

Oak Tree at Santa Anita is the 12th facility to gain full accreditation by the Alliance. Calder Race Course, Turfway Park and the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, all accredited in September, were the latest to receive the designation prior to Thursday’s announcement.

The track’s on-site review included inspections of all facets of the racing facility, and interviews with track executives, racetrack personnel, jockeys, owners, trainers, stewards, regulators and fans. The inspection team included Celeste Kunz, D.V.M; Stan Bowker, chairman of the Racing Officials Accreditation Program; and Mike Ziegler, executive director of the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance.

The accreditation program focuses on human and equine safety but will be expanded to cover additional areas, including wagering security.
