Krysia scores in Gran Premio Enrique Acebal

by Michael Burns

Stonestreet Stable’s Krysia confirmed her affinity for a soft turf course with an impressive victory in the Gran Premio Enrique Acebal (Arg-G1) for Argentina’s top turf three-year-old fillies on Saturday at Hipodromo San Isidro.

Ridden by Eduardo Ortega Pavon, who notched his first Group 1 win, the Matty G filly squeezed through an opening near the rail and drew clear in the stretch to prevail by 12 lengths.

Krysia earned her first career stakes win and third consecutive victory on grass. Ortega has been aboard for all three of her victories. The win also represented the first Group 1 success in Argentina for Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Stables.

La Tremoille closed well to finish second, 11 lengths clear of pacesetter Taken Away. Soy Picarona, who chased pacemaker Taken Away in the early part of the race, held on to finish fourth despite her rider Juan Carlos Noriega loosing the stirrups after his saddle slipped forward.

Trained by Jorge Mayansky Neer, Krysia covered 2,000 meters (9.94 furlongs) on turf rated as soft in 2:06.49 to earn her third win in six career starts.

Krysia probably will be pointed to the Gran Premio Internacional Copa de Plata – Arquitecto Roberto Vasquez Mansilla (Arg-G1) for fillies and mares on turf at San Isidro on December 7.

Bred in Argentina by Haras La Providencia, Krysia is out of Brazilian Group 2-placed winner Krisby, by Most Welcome (GB).
