Absolut Glam closed with a rush to post a 1 1/4-length victory in the $481,770 Tattersalls Winter Stakes (Aus-G1) on Saturday at Eagle Farm.
The Snowland filly earned her first career Group 1 victory and gave jockey James Winks his first win at the highest level after six years of riding professionally.
"I can't explain it; I've dreamt about winning a Group 1 since I was a kid," Winks told the Australian Associated Press.
The 1,400-meter (6.96-furlong) Winter Stakes is the final Group 1 race of the Australian season. Winks positioned Absolut Glam in seventh in the 20-horse field. She responded eagerly when roused in the stretch and powered clear to prevail in 1:24.04 on turf rated as slow.
Runner-up Fritz’s Princess was 2 1/2 lengths clear of third-place finisher Alverta.
Absolut Glam won the Hollylodge Thoroughbreds Classic (Aus-G2) on February 16 and entered off a fourth-place finish in the AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (Aus-G1), in which she was beaten by a half-length by winner Baritone.
Trained by Danny O’Brien, who co-owns Absolut Glam in a partnership, the chestnut filly improved to four wins in 13 career starts. Absolut Glam is out of the Pine Bluff mare Pine Away.
