The five-day Glorious Goodwood meeting begins on Tuesday with three group stakes races on tap for opening day and dual classic winner Henrythenavigator slated to race on Wednesday.
Henrythenavigator will face older horses for the first time in the BGC Sussex Stakes (Eng-G1), which also drew familiar foe Raven’s Pass, who finished second to Henrythenavigator in the St. James’s Palace Stakes (Eng-G1) on June 17 at Royal Ascot.
Henrythenavigator is unbeaten in three starts this year for trainer Aidan O’Brien and owner Susan Magnier and cemented his status as one of the top milers in the world.
The Kingmambo colt showed his class while winning the Stanjamesuk.com Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) on May 3 at Newmarket and flashed his brilliant turn of foot in a 1 3/4-length score in the Boylesports Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-G1) on May 24 at the Curragh.
Out of Irish Group 1 winner Sequoyah (Ire), by Sadler’s Wells, Henrythenavigator has won five of seven starts and earned $1,291,072.
Opening day at Glorious Goodwood features the Betfair Gordon Stakes (Eng-G3), Betfair Molecomb Stakes (Eng-G3), and Betfair Cup Lennox Stakes (Eng-G2).
Three-year-old filly Infallible will take on males for the first time as well as older horses in the Lennox Stakes, a seven-furlong race for horses three years old and older.
Winner of the Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes (Eng-G3) on April 16, the Pivotal filly finished second in the Coronation Stakes on June 20 at Royal Ascot and enters off a runner-up finish in the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes (Eng-G1) on July 9 at Newmarket.
Norfolk Stakes (Eng-G2) runner-up Spin Cycle is one of 15 two-year-olds entered in the Molecomb Stakes, a five-furlong race for two-year-olds.
Conduit enters the 1 1/2-mile Gordon Stakes for three-year-olds off a runner-up finish in the King Edward VII Stakes (Eng-G2) on June 20 at Royal Ascot.
