Darley releases fees for 2010 stallion roster

Darley has announced the fees for its 40 stallions standing in Europe and North America for the 2010 breeding season.

The European and North American roster includes the sires of 11 winners of 24 Grade 1 or Group 1 races in 2009, including Street Cry (Ire), Medaglia d'Oro, Singspiel (Ire), Elusive Quality, and Cape Cross (Ire), sire of superstar Sea The Stars

Medaglia d’Oro, the sire of BlackBerry Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Rachel Alexandra, will stand his first season at Darley America in Lexington for a fee of $100,000 after being purchased by Darley in June. The ten-year-old by El Prado (Ire) previously stood at Audrey Haisfield’s Stonewall Farm in Versailles, Kentucky, since 2006. His stood for $60,000 during the 2009 breeding season.

The fees of 37 of Darley's 40 stallions will remain unchanged or decrease for the 2010 breeding season.

"There is no doubt that the yearling market throughout the Northern Hemisphere in 2009 has been extremely selective,” said John Ferguson, bloodstock adviser for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. “Breeders therefore have to be very conscious of the cost of production at every level of the yearling market.

“Due to reasons both within and outside of the racing industry, there is a shortage of people wishing to invest in racehorses at the present time and although we should be cautiously optimistic for the future, Sheikh Mohammed believes that Darley's stud fees must remain exceptional value in order that breeders may continue to operate successfully in these difficult times."

A new addition to the Darley stallion roster for 2010 is French and Irish classic-placed Group 1 winner Creachadoir, who will stand his first season for $6,653 (4,500 euros) at Haris du Logis in France. A half brother to multiple Group 1 winner Youmzain, Creachadoir is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Sadima.
