Against the Tide first winner for Ocean Terrace

Against the Tide launched his winning bid four-wide on the turn before drawing clear to a 3 1/4-length victory under Shannon Beauregard on Wednesday in the second race at Northlands Park to become the first winner for freshman sire Ocean Terrace.

Against the Tide, who is out of the unraced Deputy Minister mare Rezister, completed six furlongs in 1:14 on a track rated as fast. A half brother to multiple stakes-placed winner Napinowaan, Against the Tide debuted on July 9 with a third-place finish in the Edmonton Juvenile Stakes for owners Randy Howg and Bob Butz and trainer Robertino Diodoro.

Ocean Terrace, an eight-year-old by Saint Ballado out of the multiple stakes-winning Black Tie Affair (Ire) mare Crystal River, stood the 2008 season for $2,000 at Mighty Acres in Pryor, Oklahoma. He has 26 two-year-olds in his first crop.

Ocean Terrace won three of five career starts, including the 2003 El Camino Real Derby (G3) at Golden Gate Fields against third-place finisher Ten Most Wanted, the 2003 Travers Stakes (G1) winner and Belmont Stakes (G1) runner-up. He earned $160,400 for owner Fog City Stable and trainer Bob Hess Jr.
