Freshman sire Unbridled’s Comet gets first winner

Catcha Comet Rosie dueled for the early lead and surged to a dominant seven-length win as the 9-to-10 favorite under Deborah Hoonan-Trujillo on Sunday in the third race at Emerald Downs to become the first winner for freshman sire Unbridled’s Comet.

Catcha Comet Rosie, one of six winners from as many starters out of the winning Irish Tower mare Yorkist Rose, completed the 4½ furlongs in :52 on a track rated as fast. A half sister to stakes winners Bold Grenadier and Ochoco Flame, she is campaigned by Root and Vogt Stable and trained by Ben Root.

Unbridled’s Comet is an eight-year-old by Unbridled’s Song out of the unraced Known Fact mare Rainbow Promise, a half sister to Grade 1 winner Try Something New. He stood the 2008 season for $500 at Oakhurst Thoroughbreds in Newberg, Oregon, and has seven two-year-olds in his first crop.

Unbridled’s Comet finished third once in four career starts for owners Aaron and Marie Jones and banked $7,800 in career earnings. He is a half brother to stakes winner Class Above.
