Lucayan Secret first winner for freshman sire Top Hit
Lucayan Secret gained command three wide on the turn and was ridden out by jockey Saul Arias in a three-length debut win on Wednesday at the Solano County Fair to become the first winner for Grade 3 winner and freshman sire Top Hit.
Trained by William Morey Jr. for co-owners Cosgrove, Shustek, and Tussey, Lucayan Secret completed a 5 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race in 1:05.22 on a fast track. Pennsylvania-bred Lucayan Secret is out of the unraced Capote mare Seattle Secret.
Lucayan Secret is the first starter for Top Hit, who stands for $2,000 at Triple AAA Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. The ten-year-old Twining horse is out of the multiple stakes-winning Stop the Music mare Popular Tune, a half sister to 1985 champion older horse and sire Vanlandingham. Top Hit is a half brother to multiple stakes winner Crafty Star and has 13 two-year-olds in his first crop.
Top Hit concluded his racing career in 2004 with seven wins in 36 starts and $445,357 in earnings. The dark bay or brown horse won the 2001 Oklahoma Derby (G3) at Remington Park for trainer Kory Owens and owner Triple AAA Ranch.
