Stealinthejackpot first winner for freshman sire Jackpot
Vessels Stallion Farm homebred Stealinthejackpot rallied in the stretch under Luis Martinez to win the ninth race at Santa Rosa on Monday and become the first career winner for Grade 2-winning freshman sire Jackpot.
Out of the winning Open Forum mare Rippled Effect, Stealinthejackpot won the 5 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race in 1:05.67 on a track rated as fast in his career debut for trainer Steven Miyadi.
Jackpot, a ten-year-old by Seeking the Gold out of the multiple Grade 1-placed Cox’s Ridge mare Frolic, stood the 2008 breeding season for $3,500 at Vessels Stallion Farm in Bonsall, California. He has 19 two-year-olds in his first crop.
Campaigned by Cynthia Phipps and trained by Shug McGaughey, Jackpot won four of 16 starts and earned $288,915 in four seasons. His biggest win came in his final race as Jackpot won the Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) by two lengths in 2004.
